In observance of Children's Mental Health Acceptance Week, UTHC's Center for Youth Advocacy and Well-Being is hosting Trauma Summit 2023.

Trauma-informed care shifts the focus from “What’s wrong with you" to “What happened to you?” A trauma-informed approach to care acknowledges that behavioral health and other child serving systems, and intervention teams need to have a complete picture of a child's life situation — past and present — in order to provide effective services and supports with a healing orientation. Adopting trauma-informed practices can potentially improve youth and family engagement, treatment adherence, and health outcomes, as well as provider and staff wellness.

Attendees will leave this Trauma Summit knowing how to :

  • Build awareness of the importance of trauma-informed care
  • Generate buy-in for a trauma-informed approach to working with youth and families
  • Create a safe physical, social, and emotional environment for the youth and families within our communities
  • Promote practice and policy changes to transform the system to be more trauma-informed

The program will include:

May 9th, 2023, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

A panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Altha Stewart, Senior Associate Dean for Community Health Engagement, Director, Center for Youth Advocacy and Well-Being, on the topic, Trauma Informed Mental Health Approach to Addressing Youth Violence in Our Community and a keynote speech by Rwenshaun Miller, LPC, Mental Health change agent, author, and social entrepreneur.

(Breakfast and lunch are included)

May 9th, 2023, 4 p.m.-7 p.m.
