The entire UTHSC community is invited to attend two morning training sessions (May 18 and 19) by Hanover Research, the Office of Research's grant consulting firm.  Sarah Ott, Sr. Grants Consultant with Hanover, will conduct both sessions from 9am-11am each day. Advance registration required.


TUESDAY, May 18 - NIH K Award Training

9:00am-10:00am, K Overview and Profiles.  An overview of NIH career development awards and a review of selected mentored (K01, K08 and K23) and non-mentored K awards (K02).

10:10am-11:00am, How to Apply to a K Award.  An overveiw of the content expected for K awards, the review criteria and recommended strategy for planning and drafting the proposal.

Individual or small group grant consultation meetings available for  UTHSC faculty May 18-May 25.

Discuss and receive guidance on specific projects, including action steps to gain the necessary skills to reach the short- and long-term goals of your project.  Examples of consultation types, and materials you will need to provide Hanover prior to your consultation:

  • Concept Paper: A one- to two-page concept paper describing your proposed project and the name of the specific program or agency to which you are planning to submit, (or a list of potential funding targets you are considering)
  • Reviewer Feedback: Your previously submitted proposal and reviewer feedback
  • PO Phone Call: Your notes/talking points for an upcoming phone call with a Program Officer
  • Questions/Concerns: A list of specific questions or concerns you’d like to discuss with your Grants Consultant.


Consultations scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
