In this 2nd of a 6 series virtual presentation on Bringing Awareness to Youth Mental Health, UTHSC Medical Student Abbgayle Labonne will first introduce the prevalence of insufficient sleep in children and adolescents, driving factors of poor sleep, and populations that are at-risk for poor sleep. Abbi will highlight the importance of focusing on the sleep quality of adolescents as it compares to sleep in adulthood, relates to the biopsychosocial model of health, and correlates with long-term negative outcomes. Abbi will then explore ways that youth advocates and mental health professionals can use this knowledge in their work to better protect at-risk populations from long term complications.
