The Tennessee Institute of Regenerative Medicine (TennIRM) and the Division of Regenerative and Rehabilitation Sciences in the College of Health Professions welcomes Dr. Benjamin Miller. He is a Member of the Aging and Metabolism Research Program at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF). He is also co-director of the Metabolic Phenotyping Core at the Center for Cellular Metabolism Research in Oklahoma and a Research Scientist for the Oklahoma City Veterans Administration. He investigates mechanisms that drive increased healthspan with aging.  This focus includes maintaining proteins in a “young” state so that cells and tissues can continue functioning normally without disease. Mitochondria are a specific interest since these cellular organelles are central to aging. He is investigating proteostatic mechanisms in mitochondria to increase stress resistance for slowing aging. The NIH and VA have heavily funded his research; he is currently the principal investigator on three (3) NIH R01 grants, a VA merit award, and has authored 105 research publications.
