About this Event
Add to calendarThe Tennessee Institute of Regenerative Medicine (TennIRM) and the Division of Regenerative and Rehabilitation Sciences in the College of Health Professions welcomes Dr. Gabor Tigyi, Professor and Harriett Van Vleet Endowed Chair in the Department of Physiology at UTHSC. He also serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at UTHSC, Executive Director of TennIRM, and is the founder and Chief Scientific Officer of RxBio Inc.
Since discovering the bioactive serum factor lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) in 1987; his research has focused on LPA biology. This work yielded several patents and a designed LPA analog designated Rx100 that has been tested in non-human primates and entered the FDA approval process for the treatment of radiation injury. He has published over 225 peer-reviewed articles, and his work has been cited over 14,000 times. Dr. Tigyi will present his recent research establishing LPA as a therapeutically promising regulator of stem cell behavior with distinct applications in regenerative medicine and cancer therapy.
