FEATURING DR. KENNETH M. SAKAUYE
Dr. Sakauye is an Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.  He is an award winning nationally recognized physician of color.  He chaired the APA’s Council on Aging, that Council’s Task Force and Committee on Minority Elderly, as well as serving on the APA Council for Minority Health and Health Disparities.  He served on research review groups for the National Institute of Health, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Administration on Aging, and the Alzheimer Association. Most recently he published The Tool Kit for Spreading Eracism (End Racism) Like a Virus, meant as a primer on three skills to help empower one to talk with someone who doesn’t think like you.  The basics of developing trust, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness (the underpinning of dialectical Behavior Therapy) are described like a how-to book.  One can overcome impotent rage and feel in control of our emotions and actions when dealing with the trauma or microtraumas of racism.
